Driscoll Ranch Foundation The Problem: The Driscoll Family feeling the Western Way of life was disappearing from La Honda and neighboring coastal communities decided there had to be away to bring people together and reintroduce them to the Western Way of life. Ten years ago we produced our first rodeo at the Driscoll Ranch Event Center with the goal of bringing community together in a family friendly environment where strangers meet and leave as friends. The Rodeo also, provides a place for us to educate the public about how we manage our lands and the important role cattle and horses play as management tools in improving the condition of the land. Western Way of Life Defined: The Western Way of Life is the ability to live off the land so that the land, the animals, and the people prosper into perpetuity. The Western Way of Life is comprised of the values and skills that tamed the Wild West. Peoples character was based on values that include: honesty, trust, loyalty, pride, fairness, education, and kindness. The skills they needed included: ability to survive on the land, to work with animals, to be proficient with the tools of the trade, and the ability to adapt to whatever came your way determined your livelihood in the west. The Solution: The Driscoll Family looking for ways to continue their support of the Western Way of life created the Driscoll Ranch Foundation in January of 2010. The Rodeo now belongs to the Foundation and is the Foundation’s largest fund raising/gathering event of the year. Funds raised will be directed to qualifying non profits in the community that promote, exemplify, demonstrate, or educate the public about the Western Way of life. Some of the past recipients from the Driscoll's are:
While we have not yet received our tax exempt status from the IRS we are recognized by the state of California and anticipate receiving our tax exempt status in early 2011.Through this new vehicle we hope other like minded individuals will be able to help preserve the Western Way of life in San Mateo County. Driscoll Ranch Foundation serves to inform, preserve and promote Western Ways of Life and ranching. We are very excited about the impact the foundation can have in our community. If you are interested about the foundation please contact us via the Driscoll Ranch web site or at the office 650) 851-1735.
