The cattle operation here at the ranch is presently the back bone of our operation.

With the sale of the ranch to POST, certain land management practices needed to be addressed. First, the number of cattle on a yearly basis needed to be adjusted to the seasonal grasses. This translates into rotation the cattle though the ranch to achieve the correct amount of residual dry matter (RDM) by the end of the season in July when the cattle need to be removed. At this time the grasses are measured and weighed for the RDM quotas.

At present we operate three independent herds here on the ranch. The first being what they call "stockers". These are young steers brought in on a weight gain basis and are here from late December through the end of July. Typically we bring in anywhere between 300 to 500 head depending on the grass supply.

Secondly we lease another portion of the ranch to a local cattle rancher on a monthly per head basis. At present there are approximately 100 pairs in this heard.

Thirdly is our own heard which is growing to a manageable size. Within our heard we offer what we refer to as "mini herds". We sell our cattle to interested buyers who want to own a small heard and be able to enjoy the experience of being able to come to a ranch and work cattle.
